Our Commitment to Accessibility

We are committed to making our site accessible to all.

Accessibility Standards and this Website

We are continuously improving this website to ensure that it meets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 issued by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines, published in 2018, are the globally recognised standard for website accessibility in both corporate and public sectors.

This website has been developed to serve the widest possible audience, utilising a broad range of systems while considering the needs of users with disabilities.

We aim for our site to meet an AA level of compliance. Achieving an AAA level of compliance depends significantly on the content and how it’s written, which individual site editors are responsible for. With properly written content, a website may achieve AAA level of compliance.

Accessibility Features – Accessibility Toolbar

We provide an accessibility toolbar on the right-hand side of the site. This toolbar allows you to:

  • Control text size
  • Adjust contrast settings
  • Apply greyscale
  • Highlight links

These tools are designed to enhance your browsing experience and make the content more accessible according to your preferences.

Additional Accessibility Help – Customising Your Experience

In addition to the toolbar, you can control the appearance and functionality of this website depending on your computer settings. Most computers offer accessibility settings that can be adjusted, including changes to fonts, sizes, colours, and how the keyboard or mouse functions. Additionally, there may be options for voice commands and other features.

Rather than duplicating existing resources, we link to several organisations that have produced excellent guides on making computers and websites more accessible.

  • My Web My Way by the BBC is a comprehensive site with a wealth of useful information and accessibility links.

For regular computer users:

  • In Windows, click on the ‘Start’ button, then ‘Programmes’, then ‘Accessories’, then ‘Accessibility’.
  • Your browser will usually have controls to enlarge the text on your screen.
