Risk of Fire Notice

⚠️ IMPORTANT COMMUNITY ALERT – QUEEN ELIZABETH II FIELD ⚠️

A small wooded area within the Queen Elizabeth II Field has recently been designated as an outdoor reading and reflection area.

The idea is to make positive use of the trees that were recently felled, creating a peaceful outdoor space where residents can sit, read, enjoy nature or simply spend a little quiet time. The project is still in its early stages, and further improvements will be made as funding and opportunities become available.

For now, the area remains rustic but usable, and it has been lovely to see residents already enjoying it during the summer weather.

Unfortunately, we now need to raise a very serious concern.

Yesterday, an incident involving fire occurred within the area. Had it not been discovered and dealt with immediately, the entire wooded area—and potentially a much wider part of the field—could have been lost.

Due to the prolonged hot and dry weather, grass, fallen leaves, timber and surrounding vegetation are extremely dry. A discarded cigarette, match, lighter, candle, barbecue or even a small spark could cause a fire to spread within moments.

No fires, barbecues, candles, fire pits, fireworks or open flames of any kind are permitted anywhere on the Queen Elizabeth II Field. Signs confirming this will be placed around the site as soon as possible.

Please speak to your children, family members and friends and help us spread this important message. Fire is not harmless fun. It can spread rapidly, destroy wildlife and public spaces, damage nearby property and, most importantly, place lives at risk.

Deliberately or recklessly damaging property by fire may amount to criminal damage and can be prosecuted as arson under the Criminal Damage Act 1971.

We are also asking residents to please report antisocial or suspicious behaviour. Police resources and patrols are more likely to be directed to an area when incidents are formally reported.

☎️ Call 101 or report online for non-emergency antisocial behaviour or suspicious activity.

🚨 Call 999 immediately if a fire has been started, a crime is taking place or anyone is in immediate danger. Do not attempt to tackle a spreading grass or woodland fire yourself.

Please help us protect this new community space so that everyone can continue to enjoy it safely.South Cave Parish Council
